Kristen: We are working with Primavera project management software that schedules with critical path and we are thinking of buying a new software possibly Advanced Projects, Exepron or Aurora. We are worried we will not acheive full CCPM implementation without the right tools but we fear the investment we have to make for 200 project users.
Gerard Char: CCPM is about behavior, not software." I concur. Software is useful, but not the core of the solution." I know several companies and myself we use Primavera for medium and large projects some beyond 250M and we were able to apply critical chain throughout as methodology of sequencing and resource planning
Charles Jessup: Can you do both CCPM and resource planning?
I'm currently implementing CCPM at my company, and I'm facing some resistance to cutting task durations. Cutting durations to make room for a buffer would mean that the resource allocations get compressed too, and this would distort the resource loading charts that the company uses to plan staffing levels. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Gerard Char: CCPM and resource planning are one of the same you won't achieve CCPM implementation without the resource optimization. To reduce the behaviors and time wasting associated with having too much embedded safety, CCPM recommends that task estimates are cut to half the length of a "normal" duration. The safety at a task level is aggregated and moved to strategic points in the project flow. The way I diffuse the resistance and any other negative implications is with best estimates, comparing the tasks at hand to some benchmarks which can be a 4th percentile average of prior same task completions. "If they or someone else did it before they can do it again" I would also create a logical conflict cloud CC, this is a beast in getting your idea and buy in. I have several CC made for similar situations where resistance to change can create chaos and why the tasked resources need to be on-board in minimizing task time.
Jerome Ranger: We have sold a division to a large multinational company and CGR Group was the lead in the sale and transition support to us and to the buyer. Kudos to you & your team Gerard & Robert!
